Facebook Changing Brand Pages
Facebook announced this week that they are updating Brand Pages to better serve businesses and mobile devices. These updates include new and more prominent call-to-action buttons that appear under the Page cover photo and comprise activities closely linked to purchases such as Shop Now, Sign Up and Contact Us. Facebook is also introducing “sections” so that different types of businesses can feature what is most relevant to them. So far, pages can see two sections: Services and Shop. Lastly, look for an overall improved page layout. Each section will have its own tab and the Home Tab (aka: landing page) containing highlights of each section. Huh. Tabs are back? What’s old is new again.
Instagram Opens Ad Flood Gates
Instagram was apparently quite busy over the summer testing different ad options and announced this week that they are opening up advertising to all businesses and to 30 new countries. New ad products were also unveiled including video ads (up to 30 seconds in length), landscape video and photo, and “Marquee” – a mass awareness product. Worth pointing out, Instagram’s mobile display ad revenue is projected to come close to Google and surpass Twitter by 2017 according to a report by eMarketer. Got an Instagram 2016 ad budget? Check.
Periscope Goes Landscape
Twitter’s live streaming app Periscope will now support landscape orientation on iOS and Android. You now can share a broadcast with your friends, who may have never known about it otherwise. But that’s just the beginning. Yesterday, Apple announced upgrades to their Apple TV Box and released information that Periscope will be one of the first applications integrated into the new App Store. If you thought viewing streams on your phone was cool, imagine the new possibilities.
