18 Mar Is Facebook the New Google?
To clarify, I’m not referring to the search functionality but instead to driving site traffic. So, is Facebook the new Google? According to Herd, Facebook has only a third of Google’s traffic in the US. So why is it that Facebook can beat out Google on site references?
Two words: Content Sharing
A recent post by NewTeeVee states that Facebook says its users share 28 million pieces of content per month, with more than 18 million users updating their status messages at least once each day. These updates are being viewed by many Facebook members that, if interesting enough, will continue passing the information, causing a domino effect.
What do I think?
I think Facebook isn’t there yet but is, however, nipping at Google’s heals. Facebook members are very much into content sharing because it’s another way to reach out to their many friends on Facebook. In addition, brands are becoming more intelligent. No longer are they looking at Facebook as just another sales tool but are instead seeing it as a means to truly reach their customers. It’s not surprising that more and more individuals are using Facebook over Google to locate content.
Do you think Facebook could be the next Google?
