Heineken’s BeerFriender Gift Campaign
During the holiday season, there are often gifts you’d like to get yourself but doing so really isn’t the holiday spirit. Heinken has come up with a fantastic solution to both solve this problem and help sell their new product, the BeerTender, a home keg-tapping system that provides you with cold draught beer. Their new Facebook app, BeerFriender, will connect you with other people who want to buy a BeerTender in time for Christmas. That way, you and a “friend” will buy a BeerTender for each other and give it as a present to each other, complete with holiday wrapping paper and a card.
Innovative Social Media Campaign From Audubon Takes Birding Online
Millions of web surfers searched for virtual birds in the latest campaign from the National Audubon Society. The game brought real-world birding to the Internet, challenging players to spot dozens of species. The animated birds flew across homepages, perched on mastheads, and flocked to birdhouses installed on websites and blogs. By clicking on the birds, players linked to the Audubon Facebook page to collect and trade “bird cards,” which featured recordings of birdsongs, bird facts, and video. The winners who first to identified all 34 birds are now collecting their prizes, which include a trip for two to the Galapagos Islands.
Marvel Event Reaches ‘Critical Mass’ on Social Media
Last Wednesday, Marvel Comics used social media to help publicize the upcoming Avengers vs. X-Men event series. Marvel.com hosted a live news conference for fans via Livestream featuring the five Marvel writers behind the series. Marvel will also use Google+ to allow its readers to interact with Avengers vs. X-Men creators and the #AvX hashtag for fans to converse about the event on Twitter and Facebook.
Social Media Boosts Santa for Seniors
Be a Santa to a Senior is an anonymous Christmas gift-giving program for seniors. For the past few years, the program in Prince Edward Island has been struggling to find enough Santas. David McMillan of Home Instead Senior Care, who helped organize the program, turned to social media this year. Now, because of publicizing the effort on Facebook, they’re trying to find more seniors to match the number of volunteers. Since Be a Santa to a Senior was launched, 1.2 million gifts have gone to more than 700,000 seniors.
