‘Fast Five’ Partners with a Facebook Game

Recently, movies have seen success marketing in games, most notably Angry Birds Rio which become the most purchased app on iTunes and generated a large amount of success for the animated film it collaborated with. Fast  Five, the fifth iteration of the Fast and Furious franchise, is partnering with the Facebook game Car Town along with Regal Cinemas and Fandango to offer players both virtual and real rewards for playing.

Adult Film Company Hires a Stand-Up Comedian to Manage their Social Media

The adult film company NakedSword (insert joke here) has hired stand-up comedian and Last Comic Standing contestant Chris Porter as their full-time social media manager. He’ll help promote the company’s Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Tumblr pages along with coordinating an upcoming reality show which explores the real lives of several adult film stars.

Marist College Uses Social Media to Stay Competitive

As competitive as applying to college can be, appealing to prospective students is just as difficult. So much so, the marketing firm Stamats specializes solely in this demographic. They’ve been helping Marist College develop their traditional and social media including a heavy presence on Twitter. Their homepage even includes a link to the results for the #Marist hashtag so you can see what people are saying about the school, whether it’s good or bad.

Funding for Social and Gaming Ventures Triples to $875million

According to Dow Jones VentureSource, the capital raised in the first quarter of 2011 for social media, gaming and e-commerce markets reached $875million! The largest was by Hungry Machine, the company behind LivingSocial which raised $200million. Interestingly, it’s not just venture capitalists and angel investors that are providing the funds.
