A Simple Letter Goes Viral, Shows How Proper Engagement Is Done

So I was browsing Reddit last Friday and happened upon a letter.

For those of you who don’t know, Sainsbury’s is a supermarket chain in the UK and below is an example of the aforementioned “tiger bread.” Kid’s right on. It totally looks like a giraffe.

Now kids write letters all the time. They’re innocent and precious. When I was a young lad, I wrote one to Toys “R” Us with a toy I had designed in the hopes that they would make it. Come to think of it, I don’t think I ever heard back. Most people would never expect a large company to respond to a child, which is why this is so surprising.

In addition to being an extremely kind gesture, the letter gained a huge amount of good press. It was on the front page of Reddit all day and was covered by numerous blogs. Most importantly, that letter probably made life-long customers out of the family and in all likelihood turned them into huge brand advocates, all for about $5 and some postage.

So if you ever have the chance to go the extra mile, DO IT! In the meantime, I’m going to check on that letter I wrote to Toys “R” Us.
