Snapchat Launches Chat 2.0 and Pinterest Ups the Ante with ‘How-To’ Pins in this week’s Social You Should Know.

Snapchat Launches Chat 2.0

Snapchat launched Chat 2.0 to Android and iOS users this week. Unlike Chat 1.0 which was about “emulating the best parts of face-to-face conversation,” Chat 2.0 has figured out how to combine all the ways that people want to communicate; video, audio, text, emoji’s and doodles into one solitary interface. Chat 2.0 also makes Snapchat more of a “full communication suite” by adding the ability to Video or Audio call someone without having to chat with them first. With this new suite of features, Snapchat is becoming a direct contender with Facebook, Twitter and Instagram and establishing itself as the foundation of people’s social sharing experience. Check out this article for a full list of Chat 2.0’s new features.

Pinterest’s Cinematic and ‘How-To’ Pins

In addition to Pinterest’s new Promoted Video pins, Pinterest released some of their success stories regarding Cinematic Pins that debuted last year. Most notably, they touted L’Oreal Paris as an example of success, stating that L’Oreal has seen a boost in purchase intent of their True Match Lumi Glow Illuminator by 37.2%. Also mentioned was beloved Hershey Brand Reese’s, taking into account that people who saw the brands Cinematic Pin indicated they would be 25% more “likely to buy Reese’s products in the next 30 days” compared those who did not see a Reese’s Promoted Pin.

Now, new ‘How-to’ Pins will give creators the ability to give step-by-step instructions with pins. These Pins are rolling out to Pinterest users in the U.S., France, the U.K. and Germany on Android and the Web. Pinterest said that iOS How-To Pins will be included in a future release. Pinterest also released the results of a recent IPSOS Survey of online adults aged 18 to 64, in which 75% of people polled said Pinterest was the best app for finding new interests; 73 % said it was the best for pursuing new hobbies and 67% liked Pinterest best for expressing creativity.

How Is Gen Z Using Social Media?

Adweek came up with this nifty infographic showing how Generation Z uses social media. There doesn’t seem to be any super shocking surprises, but there certainly is the reality that Facebook is still a major part of their social media mix, along with Snapchat and Instagram. What is more interesting are the how’s and why’s of how they view their use of each channel.
