11 Oct Pinterest’s Latest E-comm Move, “Moments” with Twitter and LinkedIn Changes Groups | Social You Should Know
In this week’s Social You Should Know, find out what Pinterest is doing to move the ecommerce needle, while big news unfolds for Twitter and LinkedIn.
Pinterest Expands “Buyable Pins”
Watch out for more “buyable pins” on Pinterest. The network announced that it will grow the list of e-commerce platforms that support them. This includes Bigcommerce, Magento, and IBM Commerce. An article in TechCrunch also reveals that Wayfair and Bloomingdale’s are trying out buyable pins with Pinterest, adding to the 60M total buyable pins available today. This is the most recent move by a social network in the e-commerce game that is proving to be a real nail-biter.
Twitter Launches “Moments”
Big “Moments” at Twitter. Not only did they announce Jack Dorsey’s return as CEO, but they also launched a feature actually called “Moments“. Look for it by finding the lightning bolt on your screen and click to find curated content in areas such as politics, music, tourism and sports. The main point of this feature is to give context to stories on Twitter, which is often hard for users given how quickly tweets surface and then disappear from the timeline.
LinkedIn Makes Big Changes to Groups
LinkedIn also threw a curve ball that brands should be aware of. Effective October 14, all LinkedIn Groups will be made private. For Group owners, this means they will have to decide whether to make their Group a Standard or Unlisted Group, the only two classifications that will remain after next week. Other changes include: standalone Groups iOS app (with push notifications), better content filtering, moderation, images/mentions in conversations, and cutting out subgroups.
Last week I had the pleasure of attending Brand Innovators Mobile & Millennials Summit in Detriot. Our very own Azad Abbasi moderated the panel “Entertainment and Content 2015: Millennials and Gen Z” with representatives from Chevrolet, Quicken Loans, AT&T and 5-Hour ENERGY. Keep an eye on our blog for a post to come, but in the meantime feel free to read about our experience at September’s Content Marketing Summit here.
