Twitter adds stickers to photos, Pinterest has new shopping tools, and Facebook updates the “Like” button. All in this week’s Social You Should Know.

New Stickers for Twitter

Twitter introduced stickers this week. It’s one of the last social platforms to introduce this popular feature but they offer a twist. You aren’t able to apply them in private messages or the typical 140-character tweets. Instead, users apply them to photos in the editing stages (iOS or Android app). What makes them unique in comparison to other “adhesives” is that when you click on them, you can view other images using the same sticker (like a hashtag) so they in essence are searchable. We’ll see if this gets users to “stick” around.

Pinterest Steps it Up with New Camera Search Tool

There is soon to be new shopping plays on Pinterest. In its latest play to get users closer to purchase, Pinterest announced new features including “camera search” which allows users to snap a photo of a product they are interested in and subsequently search for it on Pinterest. They also are rolling out “object detection”, where users can find products within a pin’s image. It will be very pinteresting to see how this converts to actual sales.

Facebook’s “Like” Button Gets a Facelift

Facebook has a new “Like” button. Based on qualitative and quantitative research, Facebook has made changes to the infamous button that encouraged clicks at a higher frequency. Most notably, the Facebook “f” logo is replaced with the “thumbs up” symbol (apparently preferred by users). In addition, it comes in several sizes optimized for smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices. It has muted tones and a flatter appearance which are more closely related to Facebooks’ current look.
