A study done by online research company Knowledge Networks discovered a substantial increase in the number users now employing social media to discover new brands or products, learn more about them, and have opinions on social media affect their purchases. One of the more interesting statistics I gleaned from the article is that 40% of them did so using a mobile device.

In a survey of 1,400 women with school-aged children, a majority of moms preferred receiving promotional information through e-mail. They also showed that they are much more likely to buy products in actual stores, not online.
Red Sox Launch Spanish-Language Web Site, Social Media Pages
To help accommodate the growing number of Spanish-speaking fans, the Boston Red Sox announced the launch of a new Spanish website, Twitter handle, and Facebook page. The team has seven Spanish-speaking players on the roster and with the recent addition of Adrian Gonzales, has really started to see a dramatic increase in the reach of their fan base. They join seventeen other teams with Spanish-speaking websites, but only seven with Spanish Twitter accounts and Facebook pages.
